Ashuganj Upazila is surrounded by Mighty Meghna. Business, Agriculture, Agri-based Industry are also based on river. Ashuganj ensures food security even though it’s a densely populated area and also famous for power station and fertilizer factory. Currently power stations of Ashuganj is producing 1500MW electricity and government has a planning of 7000MW. To reach the target power station authority established 53MW power station, Ashuganj 225MW combined cycle power plant, Ashuganj 450MW combined cycle power plant(south), Ashuganj 450MW combined cycle power plant(north), 200MW modular power plant, 50MW Midland power plant, 53MW United Ashuganj power plant, 80MW Agrico power plant.  Ashuganj Uria Fertilizer Chemical Company Limited is running and also planning for second unit of the factory. Ashuganj river port is renowned in home and abroad for transportation.

 

Ashuganj Compressor Station is about to establish to increase natural gas pressure from 680ppi to 1000ppi by Asian Development Bank and Own find. This project will cost almost 1,500core BDT. This station will create the opportunity of livelihood of 50,000 more people. Moreover, agriculture based industries added economical solvency to people of this locality. Tourism and transport sector has chance to open new dimension in economy. As this upazila is only 17km away from district, monitoring and mentoring of administrative and development activities has mobility in Ashuganj.

 

Education rate of this upazila is 51% which is below national education rate. But 89 educational institutions are working together to ensure quality education. As an alternative livelihood youth generation is going abroad to increase their life standard. In total aspect budding economic activities has created the door of opportunities.
